First of all, my apologies for going such a long time between blogs. As many of you know, this September Meritha had a successful Whipple operation for pancreatic cancer, but she still has very serious chemo treatment ahead of her. I’ve had issues this year, also with cancer, (squamous cell carcinoma), and more recently with a diagnosis of severe stenosis of the spine – operation about nine months out – and double hernias – first operation about five months out. So it’s been multiple doctor’s visits each week.
On November 14, I published a blog called The Road to Zimbabwe. In it I suggested that no matter who wins, the US election must be seen to be fair and legal with every legitimate vote counted, and every illegitimate vote rejected. (Nearly 10% of Democrats say there was corruption.) The blatant corruption in the US election, and the dismissive attitude of the current Canadian government to political norms and regulations, are very worrying trends. (I had previously blogged Lessons from Zimbabwe as it relates to the decline of Canada)
I made five fairly extensive trips to Zimbabwe during the second decade of the Robert Mugabe regime, and it was sad to watch the mindless destruction of a once beautiful and prosperous country. If you think it can’t happen in Canada or the US, think again! It is happening. Just ask the citizens of Portland Oregon, or San Francisco.
Serendipitously, a few nights ago, Meritha and I watched Candace Owens in a wide-ranging interview with Melissa Tate, a woman who grew up in Zimbabwe and then moved to the United States. These are two extremely bright, very articulate women, discussing some of the most critical issues of our time.
This interview should be watched by every adult person in the Western world, no matter on which side of the political fence you sit. Please, encourage your children and grandchildren to watch it, especially if they are at all enthralled by socialism. Ms. Tate lived it.
Please Like, and Share. That’s how social media reaches tens of thousands rather than hundreds!
“Teach your children well,
Their father’s hell did slowly go by,” …
From: Teach the children well; written by Graham Nash.
“…Their father’s hell” That’s a pretty apt description of the lives of many during the last century, beginning in 1917 when the Marxist Communists took over Russia, and until now when we see the tragic destruction of Venezuela. In just 20 years under a Socialist government, Venezuela, once the most prosperous country in South America, is now the poorest, and millions of its citizens are trying to escape.
And yet addled, or perhaps venal, professors and politicians, media and entertainers still peddle the monstrous lie to our young people that socialism will give them a better future. It’s absolutely, and empirically, untrue as the following graph proves.
Notice that since the collapse of communism in the late 1980s, and the widespread embrace, however imperfectly, of capitalism, the level of poverty has gone sharply downward, and the level of prosperity has gone sharply upward. But sadly, over the last several years, young people who don’t know better – and some older adults who should – have become positive towards Marxist/socialism as a legitimate political and economic philosophy. It is not.
In 1945, at the end of World War II, Russia created the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics or USSR, a Marxist/Socialist empire which enslaved Eastern Europe and much of northern Asia. As Churchill said, an IronCurtain had descended across Europe, dividing West from East. Over the next 45 years, thousands of people died trying to escape that Marxist/Socialist prison. The whole rotten structure collapsed in 1989, under the weight of its corruption and unworkable ideology.
Mao Tse Tung’s Communists took over China in 1945 and killed tens of millions of their citizens trying to impose socialism. (**It should be noted that over the last 30 years, by allowing capitalism China has lifted hundreds of millions of its citizens out of poverty and starvation) In Cambodia, one quarter of the population was killed by Communists attempting to create their Socialist Utopia.
But what about Marxism’s less violent iterations, Socialism and Social Democracies? Communism imposes socialist policies by force, while Socialism, as in Venezuela, simply uses the power of government to take over industries and bring them under the ownership of the state. Social Democracies, with similarities to fascist economic policy in Germany, bring business and industry under state control through taxation and regulation. All eventually must fail because they ignore human nature, which is fundamentally conservative.
Scandinavian countries that went strongly socialist after World War II soon realized that they were going broke and wisely modified their policies. They now call themselves capitalists with social safety nets, i.e., Social Democrats, but like Canada, they’re now finding that they can’t even afford that. Here’s a graph showing the gradual decline of prosperity in the Scandinavian countries and the massive rise in prosperity in Ireland after it went strongly capitalist.
Canada went Social Democrat under Pierre Trudeau, Justin’s father, and within 25 years was so indebted that 40 cents of every dollar collected in taxes went to pay interest on the debt. With a gun to their head, the Liberal government of Jean Chretien finally tackled deficits and the debt – partly by downloading program costs to the provinces.
For nearly 20 years, government deficits and debt were bad words in Canada, but then governments backslid, and debt began to increase. Sadly, under Justin Trudeau’s Liberals that trend has been massively accelerated. If it’s not stopped, within 10 years Canada will begin to resemble Venezuela.
So how to stop it? Simple. Become educated, and then, “Teach your children (and your grandchildren) well.” That’s the best legacy you can leave them.

This is my first blog since the end of November. I apologize, but I simply needed time to think carefully about 2019, and what would be most important in 2020. I believe that both last year and this year, the most important thing as citizens is for us to continue defending our freedoms; freedom to think and speak, to practice our faith, to follow our conscience, to raise our children as we believe best, and freedom from bureaucracies and activists imposing ideologies that destroy opportunity. It’s a never-ending battle, but one we must never tire of fighting. Surely the 20th century taught us that!
If you agree with this, please Share it with your children and grandchildren, and Like and Share with your friends and colleagues so they can share it with their offspring! Minds are changed one at a time.
Rather than writing my own blog this week, I’m going to provide a link to an excellent article that should be read by every Albertan, and every Canadian, and every American, and every sentient citizen in the Western world. It examines the stark contrast between the intellectually chaotic and unrealistic world of modern Progressivist policy, against a carefully researched and analyzed political platform that should be a feature of every election campaign.
The article provides the most authoritative analysis of the recent Alberta election that you are ever likely to read. It’s 5 to 10 minutes long, and worth every second.
Mark Milke is an economist’s economist, and it was brilliant of Jason Kenney to get him involved early in developing Alberta’s United Conservative Party’s platform.
And since winning the election, the Kenney government has tasked an expert panel to develop a roadmap to get Alberta’s economy back on track. It is led by former Saskatchewan NDP, (yes, that’s N D P) Minister of Finance, Janice McKinnon, who guided Saskatchewan from fiscal ruin to balanced and surplus budgets. No matter whether you are a Jason fan or not, you must admit it was a brilliant managerial and political move by Jason Kenney!
Rather than writing my own blog this week, I’m going to provide a link to an excellent article that should be read by every Albertan, and every Canadian, and every American, and every awake citizen in the Western world. It examines the stark contrast between the intellectually chaotic and unrealistic world of left-wing Progressivist policy, against a carefully researched and analyzed platform that should actually be a feature of every election campaign.

I’ve always considered psychiatry to be a soft science at best, but in the last couple of years I’ve taken another look at it, mainly because Jordan Peterson seems to have hardened it up. Peterson actually refers to hard data, which many scientists do with decreasing frequency. Peterson often quotes Vienna psychiatrist Carl Jung, and philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, although less approvingly of Nietzsche.
In a short video, Prof. John Robson succinctly analyses Peterson’s possible reasons for his ambivalent view of Nietzsche. You should watch it because Nietzsche’s ideas are vitally important to understanding the underlying reasons for the disintegration of Western culture.
By the way, John Robson, who might be called Canada’s walking encyclopedia on the history of rights and freedoms developed since Magna Carta, (and which we are now, sadly, in the process of losing thanks to Justin Trudeau’s genetically inherited admiration for all things dictatorial), is a featured speaker at the upcoming Things That Matter conference to be held on February 8 and 9 at the Best Western, Port O Call Hotel at 1935 McKnight Boulevard NE, Calgary.
I’ve attended the conference since its inception, and it’s gotten better each year. Last year, numerous attendees from across Canada said it was the best conference they’ve ever attended. With this year’s lineup of speakers, 2019’s conference will be better yet.
Stay warm! Spring is only two months away, or three, or four, depending on climate change of course.
Early 2019. This an update to a blog I published on November 15, 2018. The original blog was viewed thousands of times in nearly 50 countries, so I’d like to provide some context for non Canadians.
The NDP is a party in Canada that defines itself as moderately socialist, or Social Democrat. It, (and other left wing parties), has recently become distinctly totalitarian in its ideological approach to many issues, most notably, its sexualization of education from kindergarten through high school. They apparently see no difference between 7 and 17 year olds. What I wrote about has come, or will be coming to your country, unless perhaps you live in Saudi Arabia.
This blog is for our children and grandchildren.
At a conference held in Calgary, Canada on Saturday, November 10, 2018, John Carpay, founder of the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedom, made the mistake of putting Nazi and Communist symbols and the rainbow flag in the same sentence. The left lost its mind. Admittedly, in the context of the “gotcha” times in which we live, John’s wording was an invitation for left-wing organizations and commentators to summon their enormous reserves of self-righteous, and entirely hypocritical, indignation.
The Calgary Herald’s Don Braid puffed that, “Vile” is a mild word for John Carpay’s linking of the swastika and the hammer and sickle with the rainbow flag of Gay Pride.” Braid went on: “How is it “hostility toward individual freedoms” when LGBTQ kids are at last accorded some official respect and acceptance — when they are, in fact, granted individual freedom?”
Individual freedom for five, six, seven, and eight-year-olds? Now there’s a postmodern spin on freedom. Freedom from what? Their parents? Freedom to have the nanny-state guide them from what is, almost always, a temporary childhood gender identity confusion, into a permanent state of gender crisis? Freedom for the government to help tomboyish little girls as young as three begin transitioning from their birth gender, to becoming a “chemicals and cosmetics boy”, and freedom for the government to pass a law that says, the parents cannot be told?
Those so-called laws are nationally and internationally, illegal. They are also totalitarian, unscientific, and plainly constitute child abuse. At least, so say many objective scientists in the field of childhood gender identity disorder.
Nazi Germany and Communist Russia and Maoist China all believed in the supremacy of the state, and, as Joseph Goebbels, Hitler’s propaganda minister boasted: “The youth belong to us.” And now by their decision to illegally prevent the parents of children as young as five from being told about the sexual identity confusion that their child is experiencing, the NDP is signalling that, exactly like the Nazis, it’s their view that parents and families are subordinate to the state.
But again, regarding children’s rights, Don Braid says that: “Any attempt to limit those rights is not a subject for legitimate debate, any more than the rainbow flag is a swastika.” Well Mr. Braid, to be clear, no one, including John Carpay, has ever said the rainbow flag is a swastika. (The notion that children’s rights have no limitations is mindless nonsense)
Actually, limiting the rights of parents to know what’s happening to their children, and, interfering in a child’s right to have the support of their parents is very Nazi-ish, and is most decidedly a topic for a legitimate debate, especially when the government imposing the limits looks for guidance to individuals like Dr. Kristopher Wells. (pictured)
Wells is a professor, and a confidant of Alberta’s education Minister, David Eggen. Mr. Eggen engaged Wells to supervise the construction and launch of Alberta’s Gay Straight Alliance, or GSA, website. For several months, no one paid attention. And then, Edmonton mother, Theresa Ng who is now with Parents for Choice, decided to have a look.
Ms. Ng found numerous links from the Wells supervised GSA website to sexually explicit sites. These sites included one that gave instructions on 25 sexual positions you can try at home, and another on how to give oral sex. There was also a description of felching, a practice so sickening and perverted that I’ll let you look it up for yourself. Remember, the GSA website is government approved for ages five through high school. It’s obviously not approved by parents.
I can imagine NDP supporters saying, actually I’ve talked to NDP supporters who say that they simply can’t believe that what I’m telling them is true. Sadly, it is, and here’s proof. Please scroll all the way to the bottom of the 20 PDFs, because this is what was being provided for your children and grandchildren, and you need to know.
When confronted with proof of the links – Theresa Ng had presciently taken screenshots of the linked websites – the links were removed. But then Kristopher Wells took to social media to denounce Ms. Ng for being “hysterical” and “sensationalist.” Seriously? A mother objecting to explicitly sexual content being provided to her children, without her knowledge or consent, is being hysterical and sensationalist? In what dystopian reality does Mr. Wells live? Again, here’s the link. You decide.
It’s beyond my comprehension, but Kristopher Wells is still an advisor to the NDP Alberta government, and earlier this year was the keynote speaker at an Alberta Teachers Association (ATA) conference. As a parent, does that make you feel comfortable? As an NDP or Progressivist supporter, does that make you feel comfortable? Does it make Don Braid feel comfortable?
Did this cartoon equating Christians to Nazis and ISIS, published on Twitter by Kristopher Wells in June 2016, inspire Don Braid to somewhere call it “vile”? I couldn’t find it. Wells has never apologized, and the CBC, and the Metro Star, a local publication of the almost comically Progressivist Toronto Star, seem to be okay with the cartoon, and with Well’s lack of apology.
I was at the conference at which Mr. Carpay spoke and I listened to his entire speech. Full disclosure: I know John Carpay, and I know with absolute certainty, that to suggest that he broadly equates the rainbow flag with Nazi-ism or Communism is utter nonsense. John is simply one of Canada’s most effective defenders of freedom and so the Progressivist Left hates him.
When a very moderate conservative like John Carpay inadvertently uses words in a way that can be spun negatively, Leftist Progressivists like Don Braid and the left wing media reveal themselves as total hypocrites, and purveyors of fake news.
Because when extremist and totalitarian minded leftists equate Christians with Nazis and ISIS, and defend the radical and extreme sexualization of little children, and specifically associate themselves with the rainbow flag, then people like Don Braid and the Progressivist Left go silent. Instead they use these same extremists as “sources”, and “trusted advisors” and “keynote speakers”.
Back to you Mr. Braid.
I’m Dave Reesor.
**This is the most important blog I’ve ever written, as it relates directly to the most dangerous ideology of the New Left, worldwide. It is the most important issue in theupcoming Alberta election. Please take the time to follow each of the links. You can’t do anything if you don’t know what is happening. If you agree, please forward it to all your contacts. The time for timidity and apathy is over!

**In April 2019, the NDP was thrown out of office, and replaced by a more conservative party which is rolling back some of the more extreme ideas of the radicals. But the extremist Progressivists are resisting every step of the way.
In Alberta Politics: Rachel Notley is really concerned that members of the extremist, anti-immigrant group called Soldiers of Odin (SOO) managed to crash a UCP candidate’s fundraiser at an Edmonton pub. The UCP has repudiated them. I’d say, get concerned when a Soldier of Odin becomes a member of the UCP caucus. Not going to happen.
But, the NDP actually has Marxists in their caucus. Marxism is that 20th century plague that destroyed economies around the world and killed a hundred million people. On the other hand, in the last 30 years since the downfall of Marxism, Capitalism has lifted a billion people out of poverty!
But the fact that Marxism and its various offspring; communism, fascism (think Antifa), and socialism, still retain any credibility whatsoever, is testament to the fact that far too many people let their emotions drive their actions instead of letting facts drive their emotions, and, from there, to action. Sadly, our universities, and even our schools are still polluted with Marxism friendly professors, and teachers, and they’re busily indoctrinating your children and grandchildren. Be alarmed!
What’s needed is cultural change, and it needs to start immediately, and we need to recognize that it will be a long term project. After all, the Marxists have spent the last 80 years taking their “long slow march through the institutions of the West.” Google that phrase, and be appalled by how successful they’ve been.
To US politics: Jordan Peterson recently tweeted that he thinks that Brett Kavanaugh, having been duly confirmed as an associate Justice on the Supreme Court of the United States, should reduce the political heat by stepping down. I disagree, and I suspect that on further reflection, Dr. Peterson will as well.
What Kavanaugh’s accuser said happened 35 years ago was not corroborated, but in fact, repudiated by each the four witnesses that she named. The evidence didn’t come remotely close to implicating Kavanaugh beyond a reasonable doubt, and that used to be the standard we went by.
For the past 60 years or so, Conservatives all over the Western world have been stepping down, backpedaling, and retreating because of pressure, lately manifesting as tantrums, by left-wing politicians, entertainers, and media. Conservatives need to get a backbone.
For Kavanaugh to have stepped down would send the message to the tantrum throwers, that they can control the political agenda just by “pitchin a fit” every time they’re unhappy, which is pretty much all the time. It’s time to shut that down, and Brett Kavanaugh spending the next 30 years on the Supreme Court is a good start.
And now to Science. I got thinking about Meritha’s closet the other day, and that got me thinking about Jordan Peterson’s monster bestseller; “12 Rules for Life, An Antidote to Chaos”. In one chapter, Peterson talks about lobsters and how both we and they arrange ourselves hierarchically, which is apparently due to a genetic connection we had millions of years ago. It’s in our DNA.
I don’t know if anybody has, but I think it would be worthwhile to explore my hypothesis which is that women have an ancient genetic connection to centipedes.
Otherwise, why so many shoes?
**The photo is NOT of Meritha, or her closet! ( After 51 years, my survival instincts are honed)
For those of us in Western Canada, there’s good news because Autumn is (hopefully) coming next week! Autumn and winter got mixed up this year and winter came first. Climate change I presume?
The anti-free speech, anti-freedom of assembly Progressivist Left is at it again. The target of their opprobrium is Prof. Jordan Peterson whose original sin was to insist that he would not submit to being ordered, by government, to speak certain words. In saner times he would have been lauded as a free-speech champion.
But we’re now living at George Orwell’s Animal Farm where we’re all equal, but some are more equal than others. Or in the current context: “Free speech for all, but only for you if you agree with me.”
So a bunch of Calgary’s Progressivist artistes have gotten together and begun circulating a petition to insist that Calgary’s Arts Commons cancel the July 27 event at which Jordan Peterson is the main speaker. Here’s some of what they say in their letter to Arts Commons.
“The dangerous ideas that Peterson stands and advocates for mongers hatred and discrimination against many of our staff.” But they failed to specify which of Peterson’s ideas are actually dangerous.
Personal note. I actually went to a Jordan Peterson event a couple of years ago when he was just starting to become famous, and since then I’ve watched a number of his videos and lectures. From what I’ve seen, only the clinically insane could be influenced by Peterson’s words to actually hate or harm anyone. Neither Peterson, or even these self important artists and academics incite me to hatred, but the latter’s totalitarian inclinations certainly incite me to disgust.
Because in another place in their letter they talk about “ideas”, but then they insist that Peterson’s insistence on his right to free speech subverts “ideas which are meant to protect, not be weaponized.”
** Weaponized speech is currently the handy-dandy-ist shriek-trigger for the Progressivist Left.
They go on: “Note that we are not writing this letter simply because we disagree with Peterson’s views; we feel that any individual or group of people, Peterson in this case, whose ideas and actions directly jeopardize the safety and freedom of others.”
This “danger to safety and freedom” is patent nonsense. In fact, Arts Commons says they must increase security for the sold-out event, because the Progressivist’s tantrum brigade are likely to show up. There is physical danger from them, and there is real danger to freedom of speech from the very artists and academics who, with breathtaking hypocrisy, have forever insisted on their right to say, write, paint, and act out whatever they wish.
So what’s next? Peterson has sold over 1 million books in the last six months, so is the Progressivist Left now going to organize a Peterson book burning? In the 20th century, the Left, operating under the banners of Communism, Nazism, Maoism and other Left-wing-isms, made book burning and book banning part of their modus operandi. And for good measure they killed 100 million of their citizens.
Unfortunately, the Peterson event is sold out or I’d strongly urge you to get tickets. But Peterson has some excellent videos on YouTube and they’re great for your millennial children or grandchildren who are struggling with what to do with their life. Peterson actually says that life’s tough, but well worth living with all you’ve got. He even says: “Do good.” Admittedly, that is old-fashioned thinking; its the thinking that inspired the pioneers that built this country over the past 200 years.
Peterson is certainly dangerous, but watch this brief video of him speaking, and then you decide who and what he’s dangerous to. And you’ll understand what all the Leftist, Progressivist, Fascist caterwauling is about. Peterson’s resuscitation of common-sense poses a mortal danger to their very existence.

Please let me know what you think, and SHARE this with others.
As you know, John Carpay and the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedom (JCCF) are in the forefront of fighting back against Progressivist attacks on basic human rights, including attacks on free speech.
Free speech used to mean that you could say anything you wanted, provided it didn’t promote or incite violence. Free speech even included hate speech, provided it didn’t promote or incite violence.
For example, you could say that you hated old white men, or even more specifically, that you hate Dave Reesor, and by the way, so should everyone else. In fact, I’d defend your right to say exactly that, in public and in private, or even to take out an ad in the newspaper advocating: “Hate Dave Reesor.” Only if you promote violence have you stepped over the line.
That’s free speech, or at least it was.
But now, in our “I’m a victim”, post-modern / post-rational new world, you can find yourself in trouble if you hurt someone’s feelings, or even say something that might hurt someone’s or some group’s feelings. And apparently, there are endless groups that are victims of white privilege, or ancient wrongs done to their ancestors, or some other debilitating grievance.
So we have endless groups that must not be offended; that is, with the exception of conservatives, practicing Christians and Jews, aboriginal Canadians and women who don’t vote Progressivist, etc.. In the United States, the old free speech rules apply to conservative women and conservative African-Americans; everyone else is a victim, and must not be offended.
This imbalance around free speech is enthusiastically abetted by most Canadian and American universities. In this short video, John Carpay explains exactly how universities are shutting down free speech. The JCCF believes in free speech, including your free speech; it fights unfair university policies, and it usually wins! If you believe in free speech, you should support them.
And if you haven’t already, it would be greatly appreciated if you supported us by becoming a member of the Let’s Do It Ourselves online community.
Rather than a regular blog this week, I’m going to encourage you to watch the following two, very brief videos. One is by Theresa Ng of Parents for Choice in Education. The other is by John Carpay of the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedom.
Theresa exposes the lie that alternate schools are a financial burden on the public education system. The fact is, that it’s the opposite, by hundreds of millions ofdollars. Follow this link to the video.
John speaks about the fact that free speech is under broad attack by the Progressivist Left, including the Liberal Party of Canada. And it’s not just free speech; it’s freedom of assembly, and freedom of religion, that are also under attack. Follow this link to the video.
The Let’s Do It Ourselves (LDIO) online community is committed to encouraging, and assisting moderate conservative individuals and organizations to Cooperate with each other, Contribute regularly, and Communicate effectively.
Parents for Choice and the JCCF are two organizations that are doing critical work for you, your children, and your grandchildren, and I enthusiastically encourage you to support them, regularly.
And there are other excellent organizations that I will be referring to in the coming weeks. Unsurprisingly, I believe that LDIO at www.ldio.org is another one worth supporting. If you agree, please do. And thanks to those of you who already do!
